Counseling & Forensic Psychology in Nacogdoches, TX

Our newest office at 1132 NW Stallings Drive, Suite 2 — counseling, assessments, veterans’ services and court-related evaluations for Nacogdoches County.
Pathways Forensic & Mental Health Services, PLLC offers counseling in Nacogdoches, TX at 1132 NW Stallings Drive, Suite 2. It is the practice’s newest location, opened so that clients in Nacogdoches County would have the same counseling, assessment and forensic services as the main office in Lufkin without the drive.
The office operates under the clinical direction of Dr. V. Jean Stanley, Ph.D., a Licensed Psychologist, LPC-Supervisor and Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider-Supervisor, and it shares one phone line, one set of forms and one clinical standard with Lufkin. In-person and virtual appointments are both available.

Counseling in Nacogdoches for individuals, couples and families

The counseling offered here is the same cognitive-based, non-judgmental approach used across the practice. The premise is that people can, in most cases, change for the better if they choose to, and that even when a situation is beyond a person’s control, the response to it is not. Our Texas-licensed counselors see individuals, married couples, parents and co-parents, children, adolescents and families for stress and anxiety, depression, grief and loss, post-traumatic stress disorder, recovery from sexual or emotional abuse, separation and divorce, blended-family issues, relationship and intimacy problems, child behavioral issues, parenting concerns, anger management, financial stress, and thoughts of suicide or self-harm.
Addiction counseling is available for alcohol and drug addiction and for behavioral addictions such as pornography, sex and gambling, using cognitive-behavioral therapy to identify the thinking behind the behavior and change it. Counseling in Nacogdoches also includes post-bariatric-surgery adjustment counseling for patients adapting to life after weight-loss surgery.

Students, veterans and families

With Stephen F. Austin State University a few minutes from the office, Nacogdoches counseling often means college students managing anxiety, depression, relationships or a difficult transition away from home, and the practice schedules around class calendars where it can. The office also provides veterans’ mental health services — individual and family therapy, trauma-informed CBT and EMDR for PTSD and related concerns — to veterans and military families in Nacogdoches County, with or without a formal diagnosis.

Assessments available in Nacogdoches

Beyond counseling in Nacogdoches, Pathways offers non-court-related evaluations here: ADHD testing (T.O.V.A.) for children and adults, intellectual (IQ) testing, vocational interest inventories, functional behavior analysis, public-safety evaluations for suitability to carry a firearm, pre-employment psychological evaluations, and pre-bariatric psychological evaluations conducted to the guidelines of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery for patients whose surgeon or insurer requires one before weight-loss surgery. When you call, tell us which evaluation you need; the appointment is arranged for that type, or the clinician who will conduct it contacts you first to gather the details.

Forensic services for Nacogdoches County

Pathways provides forensic psychological evaluations and treatment to the courts, criminal defense and prosecuting attorneys, adult and juvenile probation, state parole and other State and Federal agencies. The evaluations include competency to stand trial, violence risk assessments, psychosexual risk assessments and evaluations of deviant sexual interest, sentence mitigation, and assessments relating to anger, parenting and child custody, with expert testimony in criminal and family law proceedings and trial consultation for criminal and civil cases. Adolescents involved with the juvenile justice system can be evaluated and treated as well. Attorneys practicing at the Nacogdoches County Courthouse downtown can coordinate records and scheduling directly with the office.
Court-mandated counseling in Nacogdoches for anger management, substance abuse and sex offender treatment is available, the latter through a Licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider. Dr. Stanley is certified by the Council on Sex Offender Treatment as a Deregistration Evaluation Specialist, one of about twenty in Texas, for people approved by CSOT to be evaluated for removal from the sex offender registry; the deregistration evaluation page explains eligibility and the seven-step process. If a court, attorney or probation officer referred you, bring the order or referral letter to your first appointment so the evaluation addresses the question that was actually asked.

About Nacogdoches

Nacogdoches calls itself the oldest town in Texas, and its red-brick downtown streets, the Stone Fort Museum and Millard’s Crossing Historic Village are the reason visitors come; the Nacogdoches Convention & Visitors Bureau keeps the calendar, from the spring Azalea Trail through the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden on the SFA campus to the Texas Blueberry Festival in June. Stephen F. Austin State University gives the town a student population that nearly doubles it during the semester, and the Lanana Creek Trail and the SFA Mast Arboretum are where a lot of the community walks off a hard week. Nacogdoches Medical Center and the county’s community agencies refer here regularly, and the office sees clients from Garrison, Cushing, Appleby, Chireno and Etoile as well as the city itself.
The City of Nacogdoches site carries local court and community-resource information, and our FAQ covers insurance plans, virtual appointments and how to get started.

Address, hours and scheduling

The office is at 1132 NW Stallings Drive, Suite 2, Nacogdoches, TX 75964, on the northwest side of town off Loop 224. Hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; the office is closed Friday through Sunday, and evening appointments are available upon request. Call (936) 238-3868, the number shared by both offices, or fax records to (936) 238-3867. Because demand is high and this is the smaller of the two offices, the online appointment request is usually the quickest way to a first visit; tell us you prefer Nacogdoches and we will schedule around it.
After you make contact about counseling in Nacogdoches, you will receive an email with a link to the Pathways Patient Portal for exchanging forms and documents securely before your appointment. Complete the forms there or through the online intake forms, which are available in English and Spanish and include a telehealth consent. Your first sessions are spent clarifying the issues with your therapist, setting goals and choosing the strategies to reach them; a psycho-diagnostic evaluation may be suggested to sharpen the diagnosis and the treatment plan.

One practice, two offices

The Lufkin main office at 103 Wildlife Lane keeps the same Monday-through-Thursday hours and is also open Friday mornings, so a client who needs an earlier appointment than counseling in Nacogdoches can offer may be seen there instead. Records, confidentiality, how to request your records and how to raise a concern are all explained on our consumer rights page, which follows the notice requirements of the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council.
If you are searching for a psychologist or therapist in Nacogdoches, TX for yourself, your marriage or your child, or you need an evaluation for a court, an employer or a surgeon, call the office and describe what you need. The front desk will tell you which service fits and, if Lufkin can see you sooner, that too.
